As a follow up to my post on the true cost of SEO I recommend you check out the SEO Success Pyramid on Matt McGee’s blog. I recently was explaining how SEO works to the board of one of my clients in the flooring industry and they found it very helpful. Thanks Matt.

I agree. This was definitely one of the best posts of the year.
Matt is giving a presentation on this very topic at an SEMpdx Hot Seat up here in Portland on May 16th — you should come up for a visit!!

great post and lovely Pyramid, though i would emphasize “quality links” instead of “anchor text”.
off topic- i wonder about a local search basic issue in some of my seo adventures- location before or after.
i find that most people search for location after the category, such as in carpet cleaning new york, rather then new york carpet cleaning.
i ask for opinions of this conclusion and past experience of contrary if there is some.

My experience is that the search format is heavily dependent upon the subject and location of the search. Keyword research tools can help you figure this out for a particular search.
