Dentist on Sunset Boulevard

If video SEO is in the NY Times you know it’s gone mainstream. Yesterday the Times ran a piece on how a dentist in Pennsylvania has posted a video about root canal on YouTube to explain the procedure to his patients. Since he posted the video, he has signed up 42 patients via his website. Before the video he had only attracted 26 patients via the site.

I recently posted about how my dentist could have used a FAQ section on his site to help me decide to undergo a procedure. Posting a video is another great way to both attract and upsell customers.

Since Google owns YouTube it tends to show relevant YouTube videos in search results. If I were searching for a dentist in Bensalem, PA and this guy’s video showed up there’s a good chance that I would click on it.

Even in some of the most competitive niches I would imagine that most of the competition is not using online video to attract customers. If I were an upholsterer, a cab company, a plumber, etc., I’d be breaking out the camcorder right now. If you don’t, you know the other guy will.

So what’s your video optimization strategy?

Here are a couple of companies who can help you with local video production and optimization: Turn Here, Weblistic, DexKnows

Great suggestion for dentists. I think other medical fields like chiropractors could really benefit from using videos too. I often see page 1 results for videos from YouTube, MetaCafe, Viddler and so on. I’m thinking of using Tube Mogul to promote a new video we’re working on – hopefully capture some of this attention. I know video marketing has gotten very popular since your wrote this blog, you were obviously on the right track!

Our new years resolution is to launch more videos for our dental website. Video is a great way to explain to patients about different dental procedures. Many dental patients are very anxious and having a video explaining the procedure is a great way to educate your patients.
