Contrary to popular belief, Pandas don’t just eat bamboo, they also eat local search sites. My post on Yellow Pages SEO in the Post-Panda World is now live on SEL.

It’s definitely hitting all yellow pages sites hard. Perhaps they’ll re-evaluate their content now instead of dishing out millions of pages with listings.
Between me and my husband we’ve had more problems than I can count but, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) they are.
Do you care to speculate about what this means for CityGrid? Do you think it will remain viable on its own without a lot of GOOG search traffic to rely upon?
One of the main strategies of CityGrid was to reduce CitySearch’s reliance on Google. That said I am sure a number of CG distribution partners got knocked down as a result of Panda but I would guess that overall they had just as many partner sites gain, so probably no change for them.
I keep hearing about this panda update. Interested to know more.
I agree with you Jordan. There are too many sites like Yell with countless pages without any focus on providing good quality content.
This is a good example of big companies not future proofing their SEO.
Panda is certainly having an effect on hotel sites that are part of a chain. It’s not uncommon for content to be scraped and republished on many sites across the web.
Panda Update also hit websites that doesn’t have dupe content.. I dont think the bot is able to determine which content is duplicate.. I have experienced it on one of my sites.. I already conceded that i will no t be able to make money on this site after a year of work so stop working on it. but after panda it on the top 3 position for a keyword “Buy” based with over a 100k monthly searches
I’ve been trying to get updated on the Panda update. Can you some explain what exactly happened? I know a lot of sites got hit hard but just trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks!
Panda update? Let everyone else.. I keep hearing about it.. But what does it have to do with SEO?
I just really have not seen much of an effect personally from Panda. The only thing I have noticed is a few well built directories in my area have jumped in the serps a little.
I haven’t really noticed any changes on Panda, I think it mainly has to do with websites that are using spam techniques to get links and are trying to eliminate those low quality links.
