Helped launch Showtime Networks first website. From there to NBC’s Internet division and ran NBC.com, launching some of the first TV to Web experiences. In 2003, helped launch InsiderPages which was acquired by CitySearch in 2006. Since then, helping clients big and small with this strange thing called “SEO”.
Great question, they obviously lost on Waze but I’m sure that there are tons of smaller maps companies just begging to be bought. Beyond maps though, I think we should start looking at the review space as well as that seems to be more critical in getting users information.
I don’t think Apple needs its own reviews thing. I suppose they could add a “review it” UI to the Maps, but my take, as outlined in the post, is that Apple Maps needs to just be a functional mapping platform that accommodates the best local search apps on the planet. Let Yelp & Foursquare, etc. worry about innovating in the reviews space and let Apple make it easy to find those reviews on Apple Maps. I don’t see why Apple needs to own the whole experience.
