Just caught up with Kent Lindstrom, founder of PlacePop and former CEO of Friendster, a new “lightweight” local search app that has a kind of Twittery feel to it.  The service encourages users to “share where you go with friends”, “see who else goes where you do” and follow activity that occurs at different places (aka businesses).

The way it works is you add a place to the site by searching for it in the database, selecting it and then commenting about it.  At your option the comments are sent to your Twitter and Facebook profiles with links back to the PlacePop profile page.

It’s a model similar to some other Twitter Local Apps we’ve seen and the service is pretty new so there is not a huge amount of content on it, but we’ll keep an eye on it as it develops.

Also just heard Centerd launched a local search iPhone App which I will now have to check out.

hmmm…is friendster still getting new sign ups? from today’s trend, i’ve seen a lot of people migrating to facebook and twitter. and so i think Place Pop would give the same kind attraction to social networking savvy people. kudos to Lindstrom
