Even though it appears that GOOG has a database of Jamaican and other nearby island businesses, you can’t add new ones.

And it’s not just the Caribbean. If you try to submit a business to Google Places for any of the following countries you will not be able to. So if you are thinking of starting that Local SEO shop in Somalia, you may want to rethink your strategy mon:

Just realized Vatican City was on the list. Goes to show you even the big guy can’t help you when you are shut out of Google.

Very interesting find…I wonder how long that will last now that it’s been outed ;D. How did you even go about figuring that out?! haha

A reader noticed it for one country so I ran it against the list of all the countries in the world.

I’ve been trying to add a listing for Reunion. Guess Google doesn’t like small islands.

Same for la Reunion, can’t had a place … but if you search on google you will see a lot of business listed the google map … meaning there should be a way to do it !!

Google Places also populates some of its results from other sources.. meaning there may not be a direct way to list your Caribbean business through Google Places, but possibly by listing it elsewhere, Google may use it in its Places results. So I am trying to find out what these other listing sites/sources might be.. If anyone knows please let me know, too!

    Cheers

Ryan, has a good comment and I notice that for Antigua one or two tripadvisor.com listings made it on to the map. How the hell do i get my biz on there? This is a pain in the you know what. Anyway, thanks for confirming what i had figured out today.

I wish google would just group some of the Caribbean islands into a lump (e.g. Caricom) and allow people to list their businesses.. Trinidad may be small but the service is much needed!
