There does look to be a lot of potential with social search in general. What I see as a consultant to local businesses is the business owners and managers are reluctant to invest any time into social media. Local SEO is just now getting more interest in my circles here in Phoenix.

What do you see as the biggest benefit to local businesses and why should they focus on social search now as opposed to waiting till it’s mainstream?

As I mentioned in my article on SEL, those with the most pervasive and targeted social profiles should stand to reap the most long-tail benefits. As these profile take a long time to build up, the sooner you get started, the better.

I was thinking in terms of client ROI and getting a client to hang in there for the long haul.

I’m curious to how much weight or authority search engines such as google will give to older social media posts since their nature & the benefit of social search is from real-time results.

That’s the beauty of local – for the majority of queries (e.g. “pleasanton upholsterers”) there will be no real-time results, which leaves a lot of room for social-media savvy businesses to actively focus on adding relevant content to their social media profiles.

Andrew, thanks for that insight. I’ve been pondering something similar about real-time PPC or display advertising.

Hi Andrew. I think Ellen (more probably someone from her team) has read your SEL post… 🙂

Over the last few days, she has started to follow a lot of social media personas and online influencers. And here we go for cannibalizing social search results…

    You talking about Ellen Degeneres?

I am eagerly waiting for the launch of Google’s local social search. With the arrival of local social search the entire scenario of local search market gets changed, giving more opportunities to local search marketers and it also helps local business owners to market their products and services using local listing ads and customers to locate their relevant business owners. Thanks for keeping informed.
