What To Do If Your GBP Disappears From Your Account
A Google Business Profile (GBP) can disappear from an agency dashboard (like GBP Manager accounts) for several reasons; none of them fun ones. We have had this happen more times than we care to admit. Here’s a breakdown of the most common causes:
1. Profile Ownership Transfer or Removal
-
If someone with ownership access (another user or manager) removed the agency or user account from the GBP, it will no longer show up in your dashboard.
-
This can happen accidentally or intentionally by the business owner or another agency.
2. Account Suspension
-
If the GBP is suspended by Google, it might temporarily disappear or appear grayed out in the dashboard.
-
You should get a notification email, but sometimes it’s not sent or is missed.
3. Listing Removed or Marked as Duplicate
-
If Google merges or removes the profile (e.g., marking it as a duplicate or permanently closed), it may disappear from your dashboard without warning.
4. Google Account Access Issues
-
If your agency account (or sub-account used to access GBP) has lost access due to password changes, account restrictions, or account suspension, the profile will not show up.
5. Unintentional Dashboard Change
-
Sometimes users accidentally switch to the wrong location group (label) or business group, and the listing appears “missing” when it’s simply in another section of the dashboard.
6. Accidental Deletion
-
You may have just hit the wrong button. Don’t feel bad. This is not uncommon. I’ve done it! If you act fast, sometimes you can recover it. Check your email or dashboard for any notifications.
7. GBP API or Dashboard Bug
-
There have been periodic bugs or delays in the GBP API or dashboard, where listings temporarily vanish or load incorrectly.
Action Steps:
-
Check Activity Log – In the GBP dashboard, check if the profile was removed or transferred.
-
Use Google Maps or Search – Search for the business name or phone number on Google to see if the listing still exists publicly.
-
Re-invite Your Agency Account – If you find the listing but can’t access it, request to be re-added as a manager or owner.
- Keep Track of Your CID Number & Email – When you contact support, if you have the CID number of your GBP and the admin email for the GBP, you will have a lot easier time of it. Google needs this info to bring your GBP back from the dead.
-
Contact Support – If you suspect a bug or suspension and can’t resolve it:
And if none of the above works, get in touch. Maybe we can help.
