Local SEO Guide's SERP Summary shows weekly volatility for 100K Home Services SERPs over the past year.
The week of March 10th, 2025 had the most volatile SERPs we have seen in over a year that we have been tracking 100K Home Services keywords in SERP Summary.

This lines up with Google’s announcement of its March Core Update on 3/13.

Digging into the SERP Summary data, here are some things we have noticed:

Which sites gained the most SERP visibility after Google’s March Core Update?

ThisOldHouse.com
Reddit.com
Yelp.com
HomeDepot.com
Quora.com

Which sites lost the most SERP visibility after Google’s March Core Update?

DIYChatroom.com
GarageJournal.com
Bluettipower.com
Everfence.com
MrHandyMan.com

Top 10 Winners and Losers of Google's March Core Update

Google May Be Paring Back Forums

It’s interesting that two of the losers are forums, DIYChatroom & GarageJournal. Based on previous SERP Summary data, forums saw a 1,000%+ increase in visibility over the past year. DIYChatroom lost rankings for valuable queries like “best dishwasher” and “cost to reside house”. Their pages for these queries don’t seem to have any glaring quality issues. But looking at the SERPs, it seems like Google pushed up higher “authority” sites like Reddit, the Discussions and Forums widgets, and Popular Products grids. So it’s not so much these sites got demoted, as it is they got overtaken.

Google Is Continuing Its War on Programmatic SEO.

Bluettipower.com appears to have cranked out thousands of data driven pages like “how many watts does a mini-fridge use?” and is now getting pared back. EDFEnergy.com, which also has a ton of guides, like this one for heat pumps, also got hit. Their content doesn’t seem to be as programmatic as Bluetti’s, but it definitely has that kitchen-sink, made-it-for-SEO vibe.

There are a number of changes we noticed in local pack rankings that I will be presenting at Local U Global on March 26th. You can check it out at https://localu.org/global-march-2025/.

I will keep digging into the data and add more updates as we see how this massive algo update rolls out.
