Off topic, but if you were in the “man that Paris Hilton campaign ad was hilarious” camp I think you need to do some soul searching this weekend.

Sure it was a “fun” idea, but the execution had “I am trying so hard to be funny and cool” written all over it.  It’s like it was tagged “funny” and “awesome” and “smart” by Paris’ SMO guys before it was even released.

Watching this lame thing wend its way through the Web and the offline media was a perfect example of just how easily the media is manipulated into broadcasting whatever message the marketer wants to project.

Imagine if someone with an actual sense of humor had made this.

I am Andrew Shotland and I approve this message.

Perhaps I should mention to my readers that I am rebranding this blog as “Cranky SEO Guide”

I thought it was funny, besides she seems to have a pretty good grasp of what is mainstream cool…

    “mainstream cool”… says it all.

I thought it was very funny. I actually laughed out loud and emailed my friends links to it.

Say it ain’t so Hawaii. Say it ain’t so.

It’s true… In fact… It gets funnier every time I watch it.

I’m giggling to myself right now just thinking about it. Even funnier is the fact that more people saw the video that Paris did then the original TV commercial that she was making fun of.

In my opinion… It was a huge success for her.

The fact that you are blogging about it… Is contributing to it’s success. ;^)

Too true Hawaii. From the comments on Sphinn it looks like I am in the minority among SEM pros. And proudly so! 🙂

Anytime Paris Hilton is involved in the politics of selecting the president I begin purchasing water, batteries and of course duct tape.

You and me both Frank. My wife is dusting off the generator as we speak.

Just saw this on MSNBC. Apparently the ad was conceived by the Funny or Die guys. I know some of the people over there and they are pretty funny guys – especially Mark, Mitch not so much 🙂 -, but I still think this was better in idea than in execution.

Note to MSNBC, do you think we can move on from using the term “hits” as a meaningful indicator of anything? I am no longer using a 14.4 modem to access your hypertext.

I TOOK YOUR ADVICE AND DID SOME SOUL SEARCHING THIS WEEKEND. UNFORTUNATELY, I CAME UP EMPTY-HANDED. NELSON DONLEY

  • Andrew Shotland  August 9, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Don’t worry Nelson, you’ve still got the rest of the weekend.

  • Joyce  August 11, 2008 at 11:48 am

Yeah Andrew is right. Be patient.

  • Andrew Shotland  September 16, 2008 at 9:07 am

Thanks Mark but the ad still sucks 🙂

And re the nofollows if you comment often enough we take them off so come on back ya hear?

Gosh, I remember when I watched that video for the first time. Needless to say, I still don’t like it!
