My previous post on Merchant Circle’s SEO generated a bit of heat as some commenters had been the recipient of some of their aggressive marketing tactics.  By coincidence this morning the Pleasanton Kitchen Remodeler who is installing my kitchen backsplash was over.

The coincidence is that about a month ago I had signed him up for a free MC site because he had no website and was not listed in the yellow pages.  I asked him if he had received any unsolicited calls from Merchant Circle and he said he had not.  Doesn’t mean they aren’t doing it, but maybe they have toned it down a bit.

Update: A certain local search engine optimization type pinged me to note that MC only calls businesses that have not claimed their listing yet.  So the above post is basically meaningless.  What folly this thing we call life.

    Hey Andrew:

I have had a MC account for sometime. I have never got any emails from them…

Although I have gotten calls or emails to verify new merchants that come on the site.

They’re still doing it (or doing it again). I had received several such phone calls alerting me to nonexistant negative reviews, and in the past week we’ve gotten at least 3 calls alerting us to just “a review” – which again is nonexistant.

I went to their website and registered for their Do Not Call, although it makes me very angry that I had to do this. Many recorded solicitations have a way to opt out of future phone calls right on the recording. If they MUST use these incredibly stupid calls, why not do that?
