Baker Bros Flooring Deli Mapspam

Check out the above local result for “flooring phoenix, az”.  Why is www.bakerbrosdeli.com showing up as the URL for Baker Bros Area Rugs & Flooring?  This is likely just a simple case of an algorithmic mismatch, but given how easy it is to edit the business listings in Google Maps, it also could be a case of an aggressive marketer with a similar brand trying to get traffic any way they can.

The moral of the story – go claim your business in Google Local Business Center and make sure the data is correct.

What’s interesting is that the URL on the actual LBL (i.e. when you click the “more” link) is correct, as just http://www.bakerbros.com. Baker Bros’ Deli doesn’t even have any locations in AZ, according to their website. So I have a feeling this is just an example of record conflation on the part of Google.

Your point about claiming your LBL is absolutely spot on, though, and validated by the other contributors to the Local Search Ranking Factors last month. 😀

So being a person that always assumes the best in people (although some people consider that trait just being naive!), I thought I would go visit the Baker Bros Deli site and see if there was a chance of earnest confusion…well considering that BBD is in Texas and is in the FRANCHISE Deli business I would think this is a case of purposeful highjacking! And most of all, how can you trust a deli that spends more time on SEO than it does on its pastrami! By the way, the best Pastrami in the world can be found at Langers Deli in LA and they FED EX.! michael

I think David’s find is telling….Google has in the past and much more so since the update been mixing up url’s for the business records…

Mike/David, I think I contaminated the crime scene by doing the good samaritan thing by updating the URL. The deli url showed on the actual LBL before then.

BTW stay away from Baker Bros Deli, their pastrami taste like carpet.

And Michael, I am not 100% they make Pastrami, but if they do Dittmers in Moutainview, CA is the king.

You might be surprised at how much of these we see working for hotels. It’s getting worse by the week.

Please, if you have a local biz, claim it. While you’re at it, might as well get it listed in as many local YP sites just to solidify its position.

Google Map spam has plagued our google local maps. here at Marriott. I’ve been dealing with this issue for sometime now. One of our properties was directing traffic to a very adult like site…. not very favorable:).

We are currently working with our Google reps, to unravel the issue.

    Hope all is well!
