Can you tell how Centro screwed up its purchase of RealCities from McClatchy?  A clean link with the anchor text of your choice (within reason) to the first reader who figures it out.

Tip to Greg Sterling as always for alerting to me to this news.  Have a great vacation Greg.

They did a generic redirection to Centro? All subpages of realcities.com is now throwing 404s all over the place on centro.com

    Wow….what a waste…in so many ways.

    Oops…I meant centro.net.

I hate to say it, but I’ve seen this happen way too many times…especially with corporations. They do a simple redirect at the registrar or DNS level and poof….years of linkbuilding and hard work down the drain. Not to mention any pages that users may have had bookmarked…dead ends now…they don’t even have a customized 404 page. Such a shame

Man! They redirected realcities.com through 301 to /realcities page (no slash on the end) and then redirected it through 302 to /realcities/ subfolder.

Also, as Shane noted, they didn’t redirect any of ranking pages.

And they lose all the organic traffic to realcities.com
