When I started at InsiderPages, Yelp didn’t exist, but there was this service called AngiesList that we were obsessed with. AngiesList was a pioneer in figuring out how to get contractor reviews and ratings out of people.
Back in the day, InsiderPages made a splash by giving out $5 Starbucks cards for five business reviews. One of our then-rivals, Judysbook, came out with a promotion to give away iPods for 100 reviews. Then Yahoo Local came out with giving away a car to some lucky reviewer (I think it was a GM car so maybe not so lucky).
Today I got an email from Angie’s List announcing they were running a promotion to generate doctor and dentist reviews for their service and they are getting in on cool toys for reviews game. In exchange for writing 15 reviews, 3 of which are for medical service providers, they will give you a Flip Video camera. That seems like a no brainer.
I checked around at some other local review sites to see if they are running any promotions and here’s what I found:
InsiderPages Fundraisers: Raise money for your local organization by writing reviews
The Suggestr Rewards: Get points towards merchandise for writing reviews, inviting friends, etc.
Know of any other sites running reviews promotions? Send em on in.

Hi, good post on encouraging reviews. 15 for a flip video is a steal. For those of you that need some good review bait. We could offer aff partners $5 phone cards that you could give away. Like the starbucks cards. But no cost to you
